Nicholas Lesniewski-Laas

Sr. Director of Software and Systems

Nick brings over a decade of experience solving complex technical challenges through his deep expertise in microelectronics, electrical design, and software development. At Suntra (formerly Sunrise Labs), he collaborates closely with the Engineering and Quality teams to oversee and optimize Systems Engineering processes, ensuring their efficient application across projects. In addition to his leadership role, Nick contributes directly as both an advisor and a technical contributor.

Before joining Suntra, Nick was a Staff Electrical Engineer on the Advanced Technology Team at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University. There, he managed several breakthrough technology initiatives, including “Active Insoles”—a vibrating shoe insert shown to improve balance in stroke survivors and enhance agility in young athletes. He also designed, built, and deployed medical devices for clinical research in hospital settings, such as electrical stimulators for stroke rehabilitation. Beyond medical devices, Nick advanced wearable robotics technologies, including a pneumatic “Grip Glove” to support hand strength.

Earlier in his career, Nick worked as a Control Systems Engineer at Varian Semiconductor, where his innovations earned engineering excellence awards for a portable monitoring system and a high-voltage grounding system for next-generation ion implanters.

Nick holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Systems Engineering with a concentration in microelectronics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
