Suntra MedTech Solutions has appointed Steve Bowman, PhD, as Vice President, Strategic Programs. He reports to President Bryan Gilpin.

In the role, Bowman serves as executive program leader for Suntra’s largest and most complex client engagements, ensuring executive-level and cross-functional engagement across both Suntra and client organizations. He works directly with clients to accelerate product development programs and expand their capacity to design, develop, and launch new products.

Bowman joins Suntra after more than two decades leading global R&D, engineering, and program management organizations across Fortune 100 medical device, biologic, and combination product companies. Most recently he was Senior Director, Program Management at Fresenius Medical Care North America, where he led enterprise program portfolios across software-enabled electromechanical device platforms and established governance, portfolio intake, and executive review structures spanning software, systems, clinical, regulatory, and engineering teams.

Earlier, as Director and Device Program Lead at Shire, now Takeda, he led global cross-
functional device development for rare disease combination product programs from technology selection through commercialization. At Smith & Nephew he led global R&D for the joint repair franchise and directed R&D integration strategy for the $1.7 billion ArthroCare acquisition. At Johnson & Johnson he directed a $63 million R&D portfolio across 35 projects and led a biologic spinal fusion product from concept through 510(k) clearance and commercialization.

Bowman holds a PhD in Medical Engineering from the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology, an SM in Engineering Sciences from Harvard University, and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University.

“Our clients are bringing us larger programs with more riding on them, and some are asking us to operate as an extension of their R&D organization,” said Bryan Gilpin, President of Suntra MedTech Solutions. “That requires leadership that has carried that accountability inside a global medtech company. Steve has done exactly that, and he knows what it looks like from the client’s side of the table.”

Suntra MedTech Solutions provides consulting, engineering, and innovation services to medical device developers working in FDA Class II and III environments.
