From Research Prototype to Real-World Pain Relief
BioWave® had developed a promising neuromodulation technology capable of delivering deeper, longer-lasting pain relief than traditional TENS units. But their early-stage prototype born from university research was complex, difficult to operate, and not ready for clinical or consumer use. They needed Suntra MedTech Solutions to transform the concept into two market-ready devices: one for clinicians, and one for patients at home.
Suntra engineered both the BioWavePRO and BioWaveHOME systems by developing the electronics, firmware, and user interface from the ground up. We translated the core therapy into two simple, reliable, and manufacturable platforms, leveraging shared components to reduce cost and development time. Each system was purpose-built BioWavePRO for clinics and sports teams, and BioWaveHOME for easy use by patients. To enhance safety and user experience, we also designed intelligent algorithms that detect dry or misapplied pads and prompt corrective action.
The result was a major success. Both devices achieved FDA approval and have been adopted by over 105 professional sports teams, 140+ college programs, and countless healthcare providers. The BioWave platform has helped thousands manage pain effectively reducing reliance on prescription opioids and speeding recovery. It even earned a place in Suntra’s own story, helping our founder recover from surgery.
