Engineering Speed for Clinical Impact

Cellutome Epidermal Harvesting for Momelan Technologies

The Challenge

A medical device company approached Suntra MedTech Solutions to help bring their epidermal harvesting concept to life quickly. The device was designed to collect a patient’s own skin to treat wounds and aesthetic conditions with minimal scarring. With a clinical trial looming, the timeline was tight: go from concept to finished product, including clinical-ready units, in just six months.

The Solution

Suntra rapidly delivered a custom electronics system architecture optimized for precision and patient safety. Our team led the systems analysis, electrical, electro-mechanical, and electro-thermal design implementing multiple advanced solutions such as ni-chrome heating wire, a high IR-transmissible lens, a PID controller with redundant sensors and safety interlocks, and a vacuum-heat interface to ensure proper placement. The system was designed for IEC 60601-1 compliance, with firmware programmed using IEC 62304 standards and a CPLD/FPGA to streamline software development.

The Impact

In just six months, Suntra delivered a controlled build of 15 fully verified units for clinical trials—on time and on spec. The accelerated development timeline helped the client secure early clinical validation and positioned the company for a successful acquisition by KCI in 2013, validating both the technology and the execution behind it.
